Testing Your Vacuum Power Booster
*VERY EASY*
You can test vacuum operated power brakes as follows:
- After the engine has idled, park the vehicle on level ground in a well-ventilated area with the engine OFF, the parking brake engaged, and the transmission in PARK (for automatic) or REVERSE (for manual).
- Eliminate any residual vacuum in the booster by pumping the brake pedal a few times.
- While lightly pressing your brake pedal, start the engine.
- The pedal should move slightly downward immediately after the engine starts. If it does not, have the power booster replaced.
